He had been liberally educated, and his sons were carefully educated. Denison was a deacon of the Roxbury church. Eliot became pastor of the church in Roxbury, and did missionary work among the Indians. in England about 1586, came to America in 1631, and settled in Roxbury, Mass., having with him his wife Margaret, his three sons, Daniel, Edward and George, and John Eliot, who seems to have been a tutor in his family. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Michigan, Illinois, Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, California and elsewhere. He and his second wife then returned to Massachusetts, and shortly they moved to New London, Connecticut, and in 1658 to Stonington, Connecticut. After her death, he returned to England to serve in Cromwell's army there, was taken prisoner, later freed, and married Ann Borodell about 1645.
